Do you use LinkedIn?

As Dad2twins I’m well connected all over the net. I will do anything to pimp my blog to the rest of the blogosphere. I follow Statcounter and Google Analytics like a scientist trying to guess the next Earthquake. I’m on Twitter. I’m on MyBlogLog and Technorati, and cre8buzz and Feedburner and BlogRush and, well you get the point. Oh did I mention Pheedo and BlogCatalog and Fuel My Blog? There is more, but I will stop.

Now let’s talk about my professional life. I need a professional life because Dad2twins is not making me nearly enough money to feed my family, pay into the Farty Pants Twins college fund and keep my wife in the nice things she deserves. Besides, my professional life is where I should be connected. That’s where to many organizations and networking groups are that can help me advance my career. RIght?

Now I’ve tried MySpace and hated it. Besides, it’s not really for professionals as far as I can tell. I have never tried Facebook. Is it worth my time? Or is it also for college kids and music junkies looking for the next great band?

Then there is LinkedIn. I needed something to connect my professional life to the internet. Something that had a social component to it. I had many of my clients ask me if I was on LinkedIn. Finally, I jumped on board. I like it for the most part. It keeps me connected to my clients. I find that I communicate more with them than I would have without LinkedIn. As of this post I have 85 connections. Not too bad. I find that the competitiveness comes out in me and I am shooting for 100. As I live and breath, I will make 100 connections or I will feel the complete failure. I have friends with several hundred connections. How is that? How do they know more people than me. They are my friends. I know there friends. Okay, I don’t know their clients, but 300? Come on, really? 500. Now you are just lying.

So, I am a Linkedin Junky.

“Hi, my name is Lance Hulsey and it has been several hours since my last login.”

There is no hope for me. I refuse to upgrade to a paid LinkedIn account. I want 100 connections for free. I CAN do it. I MUST do it. I WILL do it.

Can you help a guy out? If you are on LinkedIn. Connect to me and I promise I will approve your connection.

Come on, you know you want to. Help a guy get to 100. Please!

  1. I’ve not heard of LinkedIn yet but my problem is that I join everything then forget what I’ve joined or don’t have the patience to read how it works, lol.
I have a myspace which I rarely log into anymore. Did facebook because a friend invited me but couldn’t figure it out in 5 minutes so haven’t been back and the same with my yearbook. I got into yuwie for a brief time but haven’t been back there either in a long while.

  2. I have a LinkedIn profile and I believe you’re already connected to me. However, I only log it about once every two weeks or so. I like it tough because it helps me stay connected with my former co-workers and business associates. You never know when you’ll need a favor.

  3. I have a LinkedIn account too, but when I click on your links above, it takes me to mine and not your page. Dunno what’s up? Feel free to send a connection request to me - Jeremy Biser. http://www.linkedin.com/in/jeremybiser

  4. I’m on many social marketing/Bookmarking/Community sites too…
The latest I’ve just joined being FuelMyBlog. :-)

If you’re a busy blogger, Facebook might not be the place for you… I’ve made many friends there but found myself neglecting my main blog because of Facebook… The main problem being that you get Applications after Applications being sent to you. Yikes!
I’n still working on the Facebook page for my main blog and its communities though… I do feel that there is a way to promote my friends’ blogs and activities through it but It’s going to need lots of tuning up first.

BlogRush?! I seem to remember that their Admin and I had a difference of opinion on what a blog should look like or/and be about… My main blog’s format didn’t get their approval somehow… _Their_ loss, not mine :-)

I’ve heard of LinkedIn before too… but, unfortunately haven’t done anything about it yet… I’ll have a look :-)

    Talk soon…

Great blog by the way :-)
