It's Armenian. My Dad's family had a tradition that the boys would have a first name of an uncle. Since there were already 2 Raymonds, my Mom and Dad chose their BIL's name; Nishan. My Uncle Nishan, who I loved like a grandfather, died a few years ago. At the funeral I was holding my ground well until my cousin, Nishan's son, hugged me after the service and said 'Kemp Nishan, you were his favorite nephew' (out of 10). I lost it...
