What’s your middle name? (If you have one)

I have a middle name. My kids have middle names. My wife did not. She is from Germany, and she tells me that Germans don’t usually give middle names. Her middle name is now her maiden name. It seems the U.S. doesn’t like people not having middle names when they get their green card. So here are our middle names.

  • Me: Arlen - My biological father’s first name. Welsh or Irish origin I think.
  • Wife: Wolters - Her maiden name.
  • Farty Pants #1 - Parker - As in Parker Posey (The awesome actress. Also a popular girls name in the South.)
  • Farty Pants #2 - Tarin - An Irish name my wife found in a book.

So what is your middle name and where did it come from and what is the origin of it? Let me know.

  1. Mine is Renee. Yeah, my mother had absolutely NO creativity when she named me, given that “Melissa Renee” was HUGELY popular in the 70’s. My husband and I did much better by our children and gave them middle names of someone important to us.

    Hannah Grayson (my favorite teacher)
Jacob Thomas (my husband’s now deceased pastor and close family friend)
Bridget Pauline (for my grandpa Paul)

  2. Very interesting topic of discussion.

My middle name is Brent. I don’t know where my parents got it. But lucky for me, my twin brother came out first and was stuck with our Uncle’s name, Vern (ha, ha, ha) as his middle name. Mine is so much better.

Our son’s middle name is my wife’s maiden name. But he also has another middle name, because without it his name would sound funny. So he has four names in his full name. Zane William XXXXXXX Roth (I don’t know how here family would take me publishing their name all over).

But that’s not as bad as my wife’s sister who, for some reason, gives her kids a lot of names.

There names are (leaving out the maiden and last name for the same reason as above):

    Sydney Adella Marie XXXXXX XXXXXX.
    Dyezabelle Idalia Rain XXXXXX XXXXXX.
Brieze Sofia Grace Selfa XXXXXX XXXXXX.

    It’s too much really.

  3. I’ve only got one, and I can’t even call it “mine” because so many others have it. Mine is Marie. Bah.

  4. I never knew the girls’ had such cool middle names! You and julia too. Nice!

Mine’s Christine. I’m guessing my dad had a thing for a Christine at some point because he later used that name on one of my sisters. Interestingly, my first and middle name both have basically the same meaning - devoted to God. Somebody somewhere is a little pissed that I didn’t pick up on the message.

  8. Mine is Marie. Marie is the middle name of both of my grandmothers, so while I was never a fan of Marie before - I appreciate it for what it stands for.

My first son has my husband’s first name for his middle name. My youngest has my father’s middle name.

I guess we keep things in the family!

P.S. The Blasters have a fun song “Marie Marie”. It made having Marie for a middle name a little more fun. So there you go. ;o)

  11. Nishan, after my Uncle Nishan. It’s Armenian. My Dad’s family had a tradition that the boys would have a first name of an uncle. Since there were already 2 Raymonds, my Mom and Dad chose their BIL’s name; Nishan. My Uncle Nishan, who I loved like a grandfather, died a few years ago. At the funeral I was holding my ground well until my cousin, Nishan’s son, hugged me after the service and said ‘Kemp Nishan, you were his favorite nephew’ (out of 10). I lost it…

So my first name is Celtic, my middle name is Armenian, and my last name is Spanish.

Quite an eclectic mix am I…

My husbands is Mitchell after one of his grandfathers.

When we were picking out names for our twins we had a long discussion about middle names and decided that since we never really used ours that we could be creative with theirs :0)

Danger is our sons middle name
    Moxie is our daughters

We get a lot of raised eyebrows.
