Let me start by saying I am a tryptophan addict. We have 2 thanksgiving dinners, one with friends on Sunday night and one with family on Thursday night. We buy local organic turkey so I brine the turkey the day before to make it a little more juicy. I also stuff it half way through cooking with stuffing I heated on the stove first. Oyster stuffing is not allowed. I use my mom’s dressing recipe (which rocks). This is my favorite holiday.
Alright Arwen!
Way to get the conversation going. Give me more people.
lol. I throw out a comment… We are deep frying this year. We’ve avoided it for the past couple of years (since it could cause our home to blow up) but this year my hubby is fixated with the thoughts of a delicious deep fried turkey.
I can’t talk turkey because we eat ham for the holiday. I know, I know. You HAVE to eat turkey on Thanksgiving. But I don’t like turkey.
Arwen - Combine the two celebrations. That’s the spirit of Thanksgiving, bringing friends and family together to celebrate all we have to be thankful for.
Mommy Bits - Don’t place the fryer on your wooden deck. You don’t want THAT kind of Thanksgiving.
Christine - I’m sorry you don’t like Turkey. It is a great side dish for the true stars of Thanksgiving.. the stuffing, the mashed potatoes, the sweet potatoes, the wine…. However, props for eating ham. As I’ve said before, Pig No Ka Oi!
Lance, Felicity, Mike, Baron, Richie, Renee, Kirsten, Matt, Erik, Chrys, Briana, Mai, Ed, Noel - This year has sucked. The only thing we have to be thankful for is our friends and family who have, and continue to, help us through life; day to day, week to week. Which brings us back to Arwen.
My true friends are family, and my family means everything to me. Let’s hope they feel the same after I cook my first Turkey next week.
Amen to that my friend. Happy Thanksgiving.
Since you want to talk turkey, I figured I’d answer what is most likely the most asked question about turkey’s,
“What is that thing hanging off of turkey’s beaks?” The red fleshy part that hangs over the turkey’s beak is called the wattle. The part that is attached to the beak is called the snood. What a fun name, isn’t it!
Last but not least, a terrible turkey joke.
What key has legs and can’t open doors?
A turKEY!
