I hear that phrase a lot around the house. Even when they don’t mean it. The standard default phrase for everything around hear is “no daddy.”
Do you want to go to Disneyland? …..”no daddy”
Do you want to eat something? …..”no daddy”
Do you want me to leave and never come back? … Yah!
just kidding on that one. Anyway, the girls are about 29 months old. I may have mentioned before that we are a bilingual house. In fact, I know I have mentioned this before. You were listening? right? German is the answer to your question. Oh, and English of course.
I have read (actually, my wife reads it and I claim I read it) that bilingual children take a little longer to start talking because of the process of instituting two languages in their little developing brains. They will probably also have a little trouble reading until they hit their stride. Which is around 7 – 9 year sold. Then (drum roll please) bilingual children excel and pass monolingual children in reading and speaking. So, my kids are smarter than yours. No really. Okay, just kidding again.
So here we are at Farty Pants headquarters, and the girls are just starting to really speak their minds. Oh hurray! I am getting lots of attitude and several “no daddy” comments a day. Nothing new for me. My wife says that all of the time as well.
I thought I would provide a visual of the true attitude my girls have perfected. Just look at the pictures and tell me you can’t see it dripping off of the photos? See, I told you.
Hey girls, you want to go to the pool?
Damn, they said yes.

My son’s about 22 months, and when he gets in one of his moods to answer “no” to everything, I like to ask if he wants a dollar and hear him answer “no.” Won’t be long before that changes.

“No, Mama”, “Not me!”, “Uh-uh”, “Nope”, “No want to”… sound familiar? I’m hoping it’s just a stage – he DID just turn 2. Count your blessings they don’t have an older sibling to learn from!
