A true story… or not? Volume II

This is the second installment in my “A true story or not” series. You have to figure out if this is a true story or not. Aren’t you paying attention?

When I was in college, one of the vice presidential nominees came to give a speech prior to the election. This person was a front-runner for the Democratic Party and was something of a rock star in political circles. I was not aware that this person was coming to our school. To be quite frank with you, I didn’t really care about politics at the time. Anyway, It was the evening, and I was coming out of a side door of the building where my class was being held. It was an evening class and I was in a hurry to get home. I flew out of the side door and ran right into the Vice Presidential nominee. I knock the wannabee VP right over along with myself. We both tumbled onto the ground and before I knew it, I was trampled on by several secret service agents. They had me pinned down and were yelling at me to “freeze”.

First of all, I wasn’t going anywhere because I was already on the ground. Secondly, I had no idea what was going on, because my mind was elsewhere as I was shutting down from my school mentality for the evening. Before I knew it, I was roughly picked up, separated from my backpack, and pinned against the wall with my hands spread above my head. I was being told “not to move” or I would be shot. I wasn’t moving anywher, believe me.

The Veep wannabee stood up and dusted off and ran off with a couple of secret service agents. I was left with a couple of guys who wanted to hurt me bad. They questioned me for about 15 minutes. They soon figured out that I had no intention of harming the Veep wanabee and gave me my backpack back and let me go on my way.

The next day, our school newspaper published a report about an attack on the Veep wanabee and how some student was trying to make a political statement about some issue of the day. What a load of crap. This is exactly how stories become larger than life. If anything the headline should have read ” Veep wanabee attacks student for not caring about the election.” I’m just saying.

  1. I say true. Was it that Stockdale guy who ran with Perot? He was a riot.

  3. This story is true. The only part I made up was that it never made the paper. No 15 minutes of fame for me.
