The amazing adventures of…

The children’s book I have been writing on and off for over a year is back on again. Last I mentioned the book in my blog was much too long ago to remember. Here is a quick refresher. It is about toddler twin super heroes and it is going to be an adventure that takes place with familiar characters we all grew up with as kids. It will also have a moral for kids to learn from.
Now here is where you come in as parents and readers of parent blogs. I have been having some discussion about the content with various people who know about these things and they are split on the main premise of my super heroes. I figured they all have a point of view coming from there respective positions in all of this but the only point of view I really care about is from the group who will be reading this to their children and that’s YOU. Parents.
So, I would like to make a request of you. Here are the questions;
- Would you rather the twins were called the Farty Pants Twins or the Smarty Pants Twins?
- Is it okay that there super powers as the Farty Pants Twins are a little juvenile. ie: Farting to freeze time and screaming to erase memories or something like that. VS Some other more normal super power like flying and super human strength.
These are two of the most important questions at this time. As I mentioned in my earlier post a year ago, I will be posting the first chapter in rough draft form, on this blog in the near future.
Until then, thanks for playing.

I think either name would be fine, and there is a rich tradition of farting in children’s books - look at the BFG by Roald Dahl - he was a right windy so and so. I think it depends on how it’s written - I would be happy for my kids to read either, but Smartypants avoids putting off people who may not be so laid back and possibly conveys more of a “superhero” feeling. I think that farting and screaming would be great in the book and done well, would be really funny. There was a UK film from a couple of years ago with “Thunderpants” in the title which I think kids loved but got a rather frosty reception from critics. These are just my thoughts, I hope they may be helpful. Good luck and I will look forward to reading the draft. I have a short story (for grown-ups) with lots of “rude” words in, great fun to write!

Totally go with the silly! We have enough “proper” books around that a little improper, if well-written, would definitely be a welcome change. What age group are you targeting?

The problem is that everyone has different ideas of what word for fart they find acceptable, and i imagine the actual word Fart is on the most extreme of a few peoples list.
I’m all for having juvenile powers though.
