Ahh Christmas, a time for…. STRESS!

As many of you already know, we have moved recently. Actually 3 weeks ago. We have moved to an area where neither my Wife or I know are way around that well. We have been up in this area before. We like it up here for the most part. (Read: Stop raining already!) and we are just now getting to the point where we feel we are unpacked for the most part. Lucky you Christine. I finally found the recipe book.

That brings me to the point of this post. Christmas. More importantly, Christmas shopping. We have done pretty well so far. We have done a lot online and the UPS guys know where we live. But we can’t get everything online and that is where the dilemma lies. Christmas is already stressful enough without having to look for directions to everything. We know where the mall is. But the mall is relatively small and most of the stores are not in the mall but scattered about on the million streets in our area. So, looking for the local Best Buy, or REI, or Barnes & Noble is not fun. We are constantly feeling lost and it is only by accident that we find anything.

That got me thinking about Christmas. When did Christmas become about rushing to buy gifts and not about being with those you love. And the food. Let’s not forget about the food. Also, at what point do you stop buying for the adults and only buy for the kids. Our family has grown with marriages and in-laws, and babies, and we are now way too large to buy presents for everyone. But no one wants to be the bad guy and say STOP! So we continue to push ourselves into a tizzy until we can’t wait for Christmas to be over.

I dream of a day when Christmas becomes simple again. We can concentrate on cookies and food and laughter and children and connecting with each other. Seeing people we haven’t seen in awhile, visiting with friends, and just enjoying the holidays while being with those we love.

Christmas is only a 12 days away. Hey come to think of it, it’s time to sing that song. Hey that should get rid of a little stress. Damn, if I could only remember the words. There are 5 maids a milkin’ right?

Merry Christmas!

  1. OK, a few points.
    1. Of course the only day you remember involves lactating women.
    2. Do as I did, propose a gift exchange between the adults. Maybe everyone else is thinking the same thing.
    3. Consider it a blessing you don’t know where everything is. Once you do know, you have become one of “them.”
    4. We are looking forward to seeing you again. Less than two weeks away.

  3. I think it’s five golden rings, but that’s the only part I remember. It’s more fun to make up your own things anyway. (”Two french fries and a cartridge in a shoe tree . . .”)
