I have to come clean….
By dad2twins on May 16, 2006 in What was I thinking?
Okay, I admit I don’t spend as much time with the girls as my wife does. I don’t even spend 1/10th the time with them as my wife. By the time I get home from work, I’m lucky if I get a couple of hours max with the Farty pants. So I have to tell you that I spent the good part of Saturday hanging with the girls BY MYSELF. (And yes I was nervous about this) We sent Mom off to get a spa treatment and lunch with the other Mom’s in my family for Mother’s Day. My Wife left at 9:00 am and didn’t return until about 3:00 pm.
I know all you Moms out there are laughing, but the purpose of this entry is not a brag so much as a tale of survival. I was sure the Farty pants would not want to be with Dad all day. (Especially after spending all day, every day with Mom) I expected crying, wondering if Mom abandon them and all around sour moods. To my Wife’s surprise (and my own) they hung out with me and we had a great time. We went to the park, played in the back yard in the water and hung in the house when it got too hot.
I probably didn’t feed them enough, give them enough water, and changed diapers enough, but they laughed a lot, giggled even more, and never complained about being stuck with me all day. And I thought it was mother’s day. I think it must have been Father’s day.
I even gave them a bath (separately) because we had an event to go to that evening. They love baths. They just hate the drying off and getting dressed part. And my Wife loved the fact that she didn’t have to give them baths for once.
I must confess …. I have the utmost admiration for all of you Mom’s. I could not do what you do. But maybe that is why you are worth a minimum of $131,214 or so they say. I’d pay more if I could afford it.
Happy Mother’s Day again to all of the Mom’s and to all the Dad’s … spend some time with your kids. The sound of them laughing will make your day.
Peace.
